Hamilton Island runs accommodation, dining, activities and events across the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, Queensland, with on-island airport and marina facilities.
Hamilton Island is the largest inhabited island in the Whitsunday Islands, off the coast of Queensland, and operates as a self-contained tourist destination in the Great Barrier Reef region. The business was acquired in 2003 by winemaker Bob Oatley and his family. Its operations span accommodation, food and beverage, activities, events and transport infrastructure, with more than 21 bars and restaurants and over 65 activities on offer, ranging from water sports and golf to excursions to Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef.
The island's accommodation portfolio covers several tiers: qualia, an award-winning luxury resort; the beachfront Reef View Hotel; Beach Club; Palm Bungalows; and The Sundays, a boutique hotel. Access to and movement around the island is served by Hamilton Island Airport and Hamilton Island Marina, which provide connections to the Whitsundays and the reef.
Hamilton Island is a car-free environment: guests and staff travel by golf buggy or by complimentary shuttle service. The island hosts major events, including the annual Hamilton Island Race Week and numerous weddings, and maintains comprehensive on-site facilities including a medical centre. Operations emphasise the island's pristine natural setting and sustainability.
